Quenching is often regarded as a black art, surrounded by fires, fumes, mystery and intrigue.  Although the quenching process takes only a few seconds of the total production time for a component, which can be as long as six months or more from the start of manufacture to the shipment of the finished product –it is often neglected or considered a low priority.
